Summary Back to Top

Constructed in 1912 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the West Side Market is the most visited facility in Cleveland, attracting nearly one million visitors each year. Its distinctive architecture and scores of independent small food businesses make it an iconic and beloved place among local residents.

This project encompasses renovations to the existing Market Hall and adjacent Arcade. Key project components include:

  • New construction to include two connector structures and a new mezzanine of approximately 2,100 SF for events and public seating
  • Gutting and rebuilding of the basement to modern standards for cold storage and food processing, including a shared commercial kitchen
  • Repurposing of the North Arcade as a food hall with prepared food vendors and seating
  • Rebuilt offices
  • New or enhanced infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, roof, and backup power
  • Improved ADA access, including three new passenger elevators

West Side Market will remain operational throughout the construction process.
