Summary Back to Top

CCPL's new Bay Village Branch Library consists of a two-story building featuring browseable collections and spaces for quiet contemplation, as well as collaboration and innovation areas.

As visitors enter the building, the space unfolds to a vaulted, double-height area featuring a grand fireplace. Located here is the adult collection, a vended café, various types of seating, public computers, and access to a covered outdoor seating area overlooking a pocket park and a future Village Green. The west side of the building features large windows in the children’s area, young adult spaces, and the meeting rooms, providing beautiful views to the wooded area along Cahoon Creek.

An ornamental stair and elevator provide access to a second floor reading loft with a fireplace that overlooks the adult collection on the ground floor. The second floor features a circular quiet reading room, balcony side study tables, and lounge seating near the double-sided fireplace. Adjacent to the reading loft is access to the rooftop patio highlighting a living roof and elevated views of the surrounding park.

Careful selection of exterior materials such as horizontal lap siding, a stone perimeter base and fireplace, shake siding accents on the circular turret, and a standing seam metal roof generates a building design that reinforces the Bay Village vernacular.

In keeping with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s dedication to reducing impact on the environment, this project will pursue LEED certification.
