The Cleveland Orchestra received State Bonds funding for 2019 through 2022 to upgrade and restore the historic Severance Hall facility and site to its original grandeur. The scope of the project included the following improvements:

  • Mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC improvements
  • Electrical assessment and upgrades, as required, for code and improved energy efficiency
  • Restoration of building façade: stone works and historic doors and windows
  • Roof restoration to address water infiltration and addition of a solar array
  • Restoration of stone site retaining walls, railings, and features

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, GPS-iMOD Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization Units were installed into all nine of the building’s air handling units.

Based on our successful completion of the renovation project, Independence Construction was awarded the CM at Risk contract for façade improvements to Severance Hall.
